Gardens worked well for us while we were away from here for about 6 weeks.

Seven pumpkins and numerous other squashes etc.

Santorini and Roma tomatoes have done well on the dripper system. Although they had clearly had better days and could have been picked earlier, we made lots of soups for the freezer, dried and pickled tomatoes along with chutney. Semi dried tomatoes along with our basil and garlic packed in jars with our local olive oil is a tasty treat.

We picked 12 kg on arrival and made a large community soup which we shared with the locals down on the common area at the beach.

Selection from the vegy garden and  preserves.

Marika's drift wood clocks. She has sold a few of these. Hard part is trying to get driftwood of the right size so there are no cutting marks.

Called Spaghetti Squash. Interesting texture and flavour.

'

Wanderer butterflies"  There are clouds of these at West end eating the swan plants.

Arnies driftwood house. Hard to get to and very remote.

Misty Morning. Taken from the Back door. This is where we have a pair of Sea Eagles nesting.

Change in weather. Mist starts to form on our Mt Killiecrankie driven by a cooling wind. Taken from balcony.

Killiecrankie Village. Ours is the house with the blue roof. Middle forground.

Marika's driftwood (and cheese grater) light.

The vegy garden has been very successful. Its nice to have fresh vegies in a remote area.

We have Cabbages, tomatoes (soon), lettuce, beetroot, Onions.

The 'Black Currawong', found only on the

Bass Strait Islands

Blue Wrens, Male and Female. We have a bird size excluder on our vegy garden. This sized bird, and smaller, are the only ones that can enter through the mesh and eat the pests.

 Robin and Sea Gull Eggs.

Laying the BBQ paving made from local materials with Kim and Barry.

View of the house taken from the front. Beach behind camera. Ned and Marika on the balcony are preparing for a walk. Dark green bushes to the right of them are Boobialla (Myoporum- insulare) which is a flame proof native plant These extend right along the back of the house area.

Daisies, irises and tulips are about the only flowers that the wallabies do not eat.

We arrived to 9 of these cauliflowers in our vegy garden. fresh produce is at a premium here so they were used in various ways.

Bartered for pumpkin and fresh eggs. Endless soups, Stir fry's, Cauliflower salad, Curried. Slow cooked stew with diced kangaroo steak.etc etc

West End Area.

Ned came across 2 Echidna. One was an albino.

They are rather shy . Ned taking a snap.

Prime Seal Island in the backgound.

Walking toward 'Egg Beach'

Twelve Hour Point in the background. This area is only for 4WD cars with low range. There was a time a conventional car could make it into here but the track has all but disappeared.

A contemplative Ned sitting on some eggs.

Egg Beach.

He found around 6 pieces of Topaz.

Killiecrankie Bay March-April 2011

Vegy garden construction under way. stainless steel cables in place and tensioned so we can 'ring lock' the netting to it. Netting next!

Marika putting cleats with glue and nails to anchor the net. The RHS has a larger aperture wire net to allow the small birds access so they can eat the insects etc.

Brave woman on the roof screwing in more cleats to stop the wind lifting the net.

Birds were flying in as we worked, through the bird wire.

Sleeper beds are in place ready to fill with soil.

Opening of the Vegy Garden Party. ( any excuse for a social)

West Ends, sustainability minister (Bill H) shaking hands with Jack.

Fishing trip with Mike Nichols. Beating down onto Prime Seal Island. A rough trip but we caught some flathead and salmon.
